Frequently Asked Questions

These are companies that produce electricity using different sources, such as: hydroelectric (reservoir or pass) thermal (diesel, bunker, biogas, natural gas, coal), solar photovoltaic, wind, among others, for subsequent distribution and commercialization in the country.

The electrical system is a network that enables the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy in Panama. Many companies generate electricity and do so from different sources: water, wind, sun, gas, oil, or coal.

In Santa Cruz Wind we use a clean and abundant source, which never runs out: the coclesano wind. Once we generated the energy, another company is in charge of the transmission system. Distribution companies then take care of delivering the energy to every home across the country.

This process must be followed to have energy available at home, meaning it is not possible to deliver energy directly from our windfarm to the Panamanian homes. The National Authority of Public Services  (ASEP) is responsible for the supervision and regulation of these processes and tariffs, to allow all Panamanians to have access to electricity in their day to day.

Wind is a stream of air that occurs in the atmosphere by varying the pressure. Wind energy is achieved by the power of wind turbines, these convert the mechanical energy of the movement of the blades generated by the wind into electricity, using advanced technology to make the most of the resource available.

Wind energy is the energy that is obtained from the wind. It is a kinetic energy produced by the effect of drafts.

Some of the benefits that we can find in the wind energy industry are the following:

  • Renewable
  • Inexhaustible
  • Non-polluting
  • Reduces the use of fossil fuels
  • Contributes to sustainable development

Not all wind can be used to generate energy. For the blades of a wind turbine to rotate, moderate wind speeds above 3 m/s and less than 25 m/s are needed. Each machine is designed for a specific wind speed to achieve its maximum power.

The presence of a wind farm near homes is not harmful to human life. On the contrary, it is a reason to feel proud, since neighboring communities can witness the creation of clean - non-polluting energy.

Wind energy does not cause emissions to the environment or water and does not produce any toxic waste. Furthermore, wind energy does not make use of natural sources and does not harm the environment in its extraction.
